Lesson 1.2: Challenges of Digital Leadership

In this lesson, we delve into the common challenges that educational leaders face when integrating digital technologies into their schools.

Key Challenges:

Impact on Educational Leadership:
These challenges affect not only the efficiency of administrative processes but also the overall learning environment.

Case-Study

At one of your high schools, you have been given the assignment of helping instructors and students utilize a modern digital learning platform. However, there are a number of major challenges you need to address:

Technological Boundaries:
A few classrooms have ancient computers, and the internet connection in parts of the school is not strong. This makes it difficult to utilize online resources or the new platform. A few teachers’ computers also do not work with the modern software.

Resistance to Change:
Numerous instructors are not sure about utilizing the new platform. They have used conventional strategies for a long time, and some do not believe digital devices will improve their teaching or their students’ learning. A few parents are also stressed about their children spending too much time on screens.

Training & Support:
There was a one-time training session, but instructors feel they need more continuous support to understand how to utilize the modern platform effectively. Instructors have diverse levels of tech abilities, and there is no plan for standard professional development.

Equity & Access:
A few students do not have reliable gadgets or internet at home, which makes it harder for them to access the platform. This makes an unfair advantage for students who have better access to technology.

Impact on Educational Leadership:
The lack of good digital instruments makes it harder for you to manage the school. Communication between staff is slow since many people still depend on paper-based methods. Parents are frustrated since they can’t effectively access data about their child’s progress online.

You are in charge of solving these problems. Using your knowledge of education and leadership, create a plan to help fix these issues and write it down in the comment section.
